What is EFM?
EFM or Ethernet Internet is a low cost leased line technology with significant cost savings compared to fibre leased lines. It is an affordable means of achieving guaranteed symmetrical speeds using broadband while providing an Ethernet handover interface. ’Symmetrical’ means that the upstream and downstream speeds are the same, and uncontended, meaning that the bandwidth is not shared, it does not slow down, and it remains consistent. The service is delivered via multiple copper telephone lines, usually bundled, to supply a single symmetric service.
Benefits of EFM
The on-site router handles the data transfer and line failures to ensure up time. EFM is typically lower-cost than a traditional leased line. It is available to over 80% of businesses in the UK. It can be generally installed in 25-30 days, which is considerably shorter than a fibre leased installation. This is a fault tolerant solution and it can be delivered in a variety of upload/download speeds.
